WITCH'S FORMULARY & SPELLBOOK

From the editor: Modern American practice in the Occult Arts has borrowed heavily from the Craft's Sister Religion, which has come to be called Voodoo. The spells, ingredients and names for many things in present day practice in the United States, have come from the Tradition of Magic brought to the New World by the African Slave.

The religious aspects of Voodoo, as practiced in the Islands of the West Indies, was filtered out and only the magic and sorcery of its physical side were kept.

The spells of the Old New Orleans Tradition have, therefore, become almost standard American "de rigeur" and are widely sold through most Occult Supply Shops in this Country.

Cultural origin of anything is not important to the modern Practitioner of the Ars Magica so far as magical efficacy is concerned -Universal Occult Principles are involved and applied by Metaphysical Systems regardless of ethnic background.

A Shaman in Lapland, a Mambo in Haiti, a Dianic Witch or a Ceremonial Wizard seem to be of the same metaphysical Family. Success in the works of the Great Art is the prime consideration.

Some manufacturers offer pre-made occult products, but the customer is never aware of what the ingredients are. A successful Witch is a Traditionalist and would feel hand made materia magica is always more effective.

In olden times herbs were gathered right from Nature and properly applied. Today, in this Age of Spiritual Winter, and isolation from Dame Nature, in this Culture of Over-Specialization, the Hand Crafter is looked upon as an oddity.

That, however, has never daunted the true Witch. He/she has never turned away from Dame Nature even in the concrete Nightmares this world has become. He/she still worketh the Ancient Magic in the traditional way…
