At some point, (in esoteric studies) one's interest leads to the actual practice and ceremonies of magic. The power of language is expressed in, what is known as, the grimoire. Whether by design or happenstance, a grimoire is the written legacy of the magician. It contains the symbols, rituals and invocations of the priest, sorcerer, necromancer, healer or witch. The sacred texts are made up of the petitions to God(s), spirit(s), and properties of and powers of plants, animals, and metals, etc. The grimoire is the written gateway from the mundane to the supernatural. It contains the methodology of manifestation... of Magick.
The following grimoires are samples of some of the currently available selections:
The origin of the word "Grimoire" is the Old French "gramaire" or "grammar," which came to English from the Greek letter of the alphabet, "gramma" which came from "of letters" or grammatikos, to the Latin grammatica, which brings us to the Old French... It gets even more complicated but at least we can agree that the consensus of Grimoire's definition is; a manual for invoking demons, magic, spells, occult knowledge, and necromancy, or an encyclopedia of spells and incantations. Recorded use of the term actually dates from only 1849.
Contemporary themes are reflected in cinema and art such as Indiana Jones, The Ninth Gate, Frankenstein, Hocus Pocus, Harry Potter and much of the art of H.R. Giger are all influenced or center on a legend of the grimoire. The interest in these works is growing in popular culture as well as occult circles.
One should keep in mind the spirit in which this books were assembled. The grimoires' profound purpose and passion in which they are composed should not be taken lightly. They embody the greatest expedition a mortal may embark…"Some books cannot be opened with impunity. Enlightenment such-as-this is a loss of innocence, for you cannot unlearn Magick nor-then live in a fool's paradise; blind to good & evil… this adventure is one-way… crossing the threshold of ignorance and shedding the veil of social matrix… prepare to see great things… prepare to see your magnificent self…" -Oliver I. Spence
