BATTLE OF BLYTHE ROAD
This item information is updated daily and is available now to order.
A GOLDEN DAWN AFFAIR - This battle was fought between magicians, a number of attacks took place on the Magical Front
Aleister Crowley, S.L. Mathers, et al, Darcey Kuntz, ed.
From the editor:
This battle was fought between magicians, a number of attacks took place on the magical front. Crowley resorted to making wax figures of the London Adepti and stuck pins into them. Yeats later wrote that Crowley's magical efforts had "not made life interesting."
...Of all the recorded magical attacks Mathers was the most successful and certainly the most famous. He took a number of dried peas and baptized one each with the magical motto of the London Adepti. As Francis King noted Mathers "... Then, by the formulae of the Great Enochian Tablet of Spirit, he evoked the forces of Beelzebub and Typhon-Set and, while shaking the peas in a sieve, called upon the those mighty devils to fall upon his enemies so that they might fall upon and confound each other with quarrels and continual disturbance."
The result was, as Dion Fortune wrote in her book Sane Occultism, a "tainted" sphere or egregme. The only cure for a tainted sphere was "to close down and disband any order that allowed its sphere to become tainted, and to raze its temples to the ground and sow the site thereof with salt. An exorcism will dispose of entities but it will not reconstruct the soul they have obsessed; and the soul in such a parlous condition will attract to itself seven devils worse than the first every time it ventures into occult work until the process of its purification be completed."
Unfortunately the Horos Affair and the very public court trial which followed the Battle one year later would bring an increased notoriety to the Order of the Golden Dawn...
