History and Traditional Uses
Cayenne, or capsicum, comes from the Greek Kopto, meaning "I bite." Bite into a hot pepper, and you'll know in a flash how powerfully stimulating this herb can be.

In sixteenth-century England, cayenne was noted as a remedy for what was then known as king's evil an infection of the lymph nodes in the neck. And later, among Ameri­can herbalists, cayenne was an herb of choice for treating everything from cold feet to dropsy (fluid accumulation) to rheumatism.

Cayenne contains vitamins A and C along with the alkaloid capsaidn.
