ELEMENTS OF THE KABBALAH IN TEN LESSONS

This item information is updated daily and is available now to order.
Letters from Eliphas Levi - A series of ten letters that Levi wrote to his disciple, M. Montant, which explain many Kabbalistic concepts in a concise manner. Edited, with an introduction, by Darcy Kuntz. Translated by J.W. Harniltion-Jones
Eliphas Levi

From the editor: Eliphas Levi was born Alphonse Louis Constant on 8 February 1810. Throughout his life he wrote many significant books on the Kabbalah and Hermetic Arts-works which strongly influenced the occult revival in the nineteenth century. He was a well known figure in occult circles and a number of Adepts came to visit him in Paris. Of these Adepts, Bulwer Lytton, Kenneth Mackenzie, and Francis Irwin had at one time met with Levi.

After Levi's death on 31 May 1875 a number of occult groups listed him as a member. The Golden Dawn was no exception and recorded him as an eminent member of the Hermanubis Temple, No. 2-a Temple which went into abeyance due to the death of its Chiefs. William Wynn Westcott in his Historical Lecture claimed that "Some years have passed away since it was decided to revive the Order of the Golden Dawn in the Outer, an Hermetic Society whose members are taught the principles of Occult Science, and the practice of the Magic of Hermes; the decease during the second half of the century of several eminent adepts and chiefs of the Order, having caused a temporary dormant condition. Prominent among these Adepts is Eliphaz Levi, the greatest of modem French Magi."

The ten Kabbalistic lessons contained in this book were written by Eliphas Levi in the form of letters to his disciple Monsieur Montant. These letters are important because, as Levi says, "My letters are short, but they are very concise summaries, and they convey a lot in few words." Montant decided to serialize these letters in the magazine Initiation sixteen years after Levi's death. In 1894, these letters were posthumously published in Levi's Le Livre des Splendeurs (The Book of Splendours) which was originally planned for 1869-70...
