In the wake of the 9/11 Tragedy we found our country deeply wounded. Americans far and wide sought ways to demonstrate the resolve we have as a people. Many donated their time, talent, and skills to help heal a nation, and lift our spirit of patriotism to levels not seen in decades. In mid November, 2001, the New York High School Basketball community did their part in a event called HOOPS 4 HEROES. Please enjoy this peek at some of the action and plan to be at this years event which will be bigger and better and most important, will raise money for children affected by the 9/11 tragedy. We look forward to seeing you at Hofstra University on Sunday, November 3, 2002 at 3:00pm.

Many in attendence felt this was one on the best games of the year. I guess that might depend on who you were pulling for. The Long Island Team pulled out to a 20 point lead midway in the second half, but as you know "pressure bust pipes" and the NYC team applied a whole lot of pressure. The game came down to a few key plays at the end and NYC walked away the the first ever HOOPS 4 HEROES Trophy. GAME OVER®.

What a day, a great game for even a greater cause. So many people came together to make it all happen. A special thanks has to go out to the players and coaches involved. As you can see from the team photos the best of the best were there. Another special thanks is also directed to the men and women behind the scenes, from Bobby Mauer to Ted Gustus, the Police Athletic League, to the Game Over crew, this cause brought out the best in everyone.

Above: Check out some of the high flying action we witnessed at last year's Slam Dunk contest. Far right: The winning NYC team poses for a photo.
Below: What a classic shot! Only at HOOPS 4 HEROES can you see four of the nations top High School coaches at once. (over 600,000 wins between them!). More slam dunk contest photos.
