Have you got Prunes?

If not, you can get Prunes at the annual Burro Days in Fairplay, Colorado, on July 26 and 27 - plus meet author Lydia Griffin and have your book signed!

This celebration of the role of the burro in Colorado's mining history has been held annually since 1948. If you can't attend the event, click to order your copy the book from Filter Press.

In Prunes and Rupe Lydia Griffin tells the heartwarming story of a prospector, his burro, and the small mountain town where they live. The thirty-two page children's book is beautifully illustrated by Judith Hunt.

Based on the true story of prospector Rupert M. Sherwood and his prune-colored burro, the book tells how people in the mining town of Fairplay looked after the burro when Rupe - and Prunes too - grew too old for mining in the high country.

Prunes and Rupe
 By Lydia Griffin
Illustrated by Judith Hunt

They had lived quite the life searching for gold. Up to the mines Prunes traipsed with Rupe, sometimes leading, sometimes following, but always carrying a gold pan, shovel, fry pan, coffeepot, ax, pick, rope, blankets, flour for flapjacks, bacon, sugar, and, of course, oats.

Rupe swore Prunes had as good a nose for gold as he did.
