Harry Vold staged his first rodeo in 1944 when he and his brothers put on the "Asker Stampede" in a small town near their father's ranch in Alberta, Canada. Auctioning and trading horses helped the family get through the Depression and set Harry on a path to become stock contractor for major rodeos throughout the United States and Canada. The Harry Vold Rodeo Company in Avondale, Colorado, is the premier producer of rodeos including Cheyenne Frontier Days and the National Finals Rodeo. Harry has been named Stock Contractor of the Year eleven times by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. In The Duke of the Chutes, Loren Whittemore profiles a man central to the sport of rodeo for well over half a century. Harry Vold's story is rodeo's story. Read a selection from the book.
