Cynthia Becker fell in love with Colorado on a childhood vacation and moved from Southern Indiana to Denver the day after graduating from the University of Evansville. In 1995, after a 25-year career in Human Resources Management, Cynthia joined the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s disaster response team. The  periodic work schedule allows time for research and writing.

Her first book, Chipeta: Queen of the Utes (Western Reflections Publishing, 2003), earned a “Best Biography” EVVY award. She retells Chipeta’s story for a younger audience in Chipeta: Ute Peacemaker.

Cynthia has produced five library-market books for educational publisher Thomson Gale. Her feature articles have appeared in The New York Times, The Saturday Evening Post, Colorado Country Life, Family Chronicle, and Learning Through History. In 2003 she was chosen a Denver Post “Colorado Voices” writer.

Cynthia is currently exploring middle grade historical fiction and short story. “Working Girl,” set in 1918 Denver, was a finalist in the 2008 Women Writing the West short story competition.
