Choosing the Correct Skin Care Oil Choosing the Correct Body Care Oil Shirodhara Info & Advice Form
| Himalayan Mountain Abhyanga In Sanskrit, the language of the Vedas, abhy means "to rub" and anga refers to the limbs - although we prefer the more poetic translation, "touched by loving hands." Abhyanga is, therefore, the classic full-body massage of Ayurveda. Warmed oils are selected to bring the subtle energies of the body into balance and applied thoroughly to the skin over the entire body in a series of classic repetitive strokes. As opposed to most other forms of massage where oil is used to just provide good slip, in Abhyanga, we are actually feeding the skin and the body nutrition in the form of quality, vital-giving oils. In our Himalayan Mountain Abhyanga, a Tibetan sequence of marma (vital energy) points are skillfully integrated into the treatment. The result is deeply revitalizing and relaxing while at the same time being gently cleansing and detoxifying. There are many styles of Abhyanga. In the style we practice and teach, only one therapist is needed rather than two or more. However, the technique itself can be modified to accommodate additional practitioners. Describe it in your service menu like this...
"A classic Ayurvedic massage with warmed, aromatic oils match to the needs of your body/mind that nourishes the skin and eases tension in the deeper tissues. Himalayan Mountain Abhyanga combines the use of tailored massage strokes, Tibetan marma therapy, nourishing oils and powders that will leave you feeling light, energized, and refreshed," 90 minutes.

- The treatment begins with touching 3 diagnostic points on the back and neck
to assess which dosha (body energetic) needs to be addressed at the time of treatment. This guides the selection of the type of oil to be used as well as the orientation in how the strokes will be administered.
| |
| - The massage begins with the head, then ears, neck, shoulders, and face.
|
- An optional Ayurvedic breast massage with traditional pomegranate oil to cleanse and tone the breast tissue is offered. Training in this technique is a unique part of our Himalayan Mountain Abhyanga class.
| |
| - Abdominal massage is a vital part of Abhyanga as it calms Vata and ensures the proper elimination of toxins released into the blood stream from the massage process.
|
Following the abdominal massage, the client's arms, legs, and back are treated similarly, with an especial attention to the joints.
- The treatment ends with being dusted with an herbal powder that acts like tiny sponges to absorb oils in the pores and some of the residual surface oil. This ensures that the skin feels soft and the toxicity which leads clients to feel sluggish the next day is completely eliminated.

Possible additional services include: an herbal bath prior to or full herbal body steaming after the abhyanga, the application of Joint Lotion on the larger joints and/or Tension lotion for thick, tight muscles, and/or followed up with Nadi Swedana - a localized herbal steaming process that floats like a soothing cloud to more deeply ease joint and muscles stresses and tension.

- supporting the immune system so there are more good days and few harder days.
- calming the nervous system so the client is less likely to be overwhelmed.
- improving physical stamina and virility.
- helping relaxation and restorative sleep.
- AND, more subtly makes and invisible film that protects against extremes of climate, environmental pollution, even sudden changes in air pressure. This is why oil massage before and/or after air travel is a perfect antedote for jetlag.
For the mind, oil massage is obviously calming and enjoyable, but it can also:
- improve intelligence, wit, memory, and self-confidence
- banish fatigue, especially when caused by stress
- give us the clarity to make better lifestyle choices.
On an even more subtle level, oil massage helps:
- balance all three subtle body energies (doshas) of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha
- move prana (life force) in both the physical and energetic sheaths of the body.
- open the nadis or channels in which the prana or life force flows.

During the massage marmas (secret energy points) are used to freshen and revitalize the body. Finally, a warmed ubtan, herbal powder, is sprinkled over the whole body to polish the skin leaving you feeling light, energized and relaxed.
