Properties: White crystals or powder, d 1.619, mildly alkaline in reaction, soluble in water, insoluble in alcohol. Noncombustible.

Derivation: Interaction of ammonium hydroxide and phosphoric acid in proper proportions.

Grade:Technical, CP, fertilizer, feed, dentifrice, highly purified for phosphors, FCC.

Use: Flameproofing of wood, paper, and textiles; coating vegetation to retard forest fires; to prevent afterglow in matches and smoking of candlewicks; fertilizer (high analysis phosphate type); plant nutrient solutions; manufacture of yeast, vinegar, and bread vinegar, and bread improvers; feed additive; flux for soldering tin, copper, brass, zinc; purifying sugar; in ammoniated dentrifices; halophosphate phosphors.
